Four Seasons

The four seasons in New England

We are in the middle of winter and it is cold outside. Phil looked at his shadow and predicted six more weeks of winter. He was right, we have a long winter ahead. But in a few weeks spring will be here, the flowers will blossom, and we will forget this cold weather. That is one of the attractions of living in New England, the four seasons. Just when you think you had enough of one, another comes in. Winter gives way to spring, spring to summer, summer to fall and finally winter again. A yearly cycle that reminds us the eternal passage of time and that nothing stays the same.

Each season has it pluses and minuses. I love each season for its qualities. Spring reminds us that the earth always renews itself. The leaves come out, the flowers blossom, the grass grows green and the weather gets warmer. The summer comes with all the hot weather, long days and short nights, long evenings of crickets and all the summer sounds. Beach days and vacations at your favorite place complete with barbecues. Then fall comes with cooler weather and the leaves turning, kids go back to school and we enjoy the shorter days and the cooler climate. The golden leaves turning and falling reminds us that winter is around the corner. Around the Holidays of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years we have the winter return again. The cold, the snow and ice, the shorter days and waiting for Spring to return again.

Each day, brings us closer to the next season and its delights. The seasons make us aware that the earth always continues to revolve around the sun and that nothing stays the same. Enjoy each day as the next season is around the corner.
